NAGPUR: Union minister Nitin Gadkari said there is a need to make ‘smart villages’ along with smart cities to ensure a well-rounded development of the country.
The Union minister said, “I am turning Bela village, 30km from Nagpur, into a smart village. If this experiment succeeds, then we can replicate it everywhere.”
He said employment opportunities need to be generated first in villages. “We have a project where from the cloth waste material carpets are produced. I gifted one such carpet to a business tycoon and he thought it cost ₹40,000, whereas the actual selling price was ₹500,” said Gadkari.
Gadkari, while speaking at the bhoomipujan of various infrastructure projects, also urged the use of drones for urea spraying on farmland.
Gadkari said that empowering self-help groups and cottage industries in villages will make financial independence a norm for villagers.
“We have built a cable stayed bridge in Ambhora which is a fantastic project. I’ve spoken to Anand Mahindra and he has agreed to start a resort there,” said Gadkari.
Gadkari also said that even if youths are going to Nagpur for work, they need not stay in the city as transportation to and from their villages will be improved.
